GUIDED WINTER WALKS

Gneiss Adventures offer winter walks across the Scottish Highlands. From the highest peaks to the most remote glens, we have something for everyone through the winter months.

We guide winter walks on all of the Scottish classics including Ben Nevis, Cairn Gorm, Ben Wyvis and all of the Torridon Munro's.

Our winter walks are suitable for all levels of experience. If it's your first time walking in the mountains in winter conditions, a two day booking would enable a day of winter skills followed by a winter mountain journey.

WINTER MUNRO's

Just because there is snow on the mountains, it does not mean your Scottish Munro journey needs to be paused. In fact, we believe that some Munro's were built for winter ascents. Forget the heather bashing, midge swatting, bog hopping madness of summer and join us on a winter Munro adventure.

WINTER SKILLS COURSE

These courses are aimed at those wanting to develop the skills to become competent and independent winter mountaineers.

Winter in Scotland is often not as glamorous as these pictures make it look. High winds, poor visibility, short days and avalanche hazard are just a few things to consider before even strapping on a pair of crampons and wielding an ice axe.

We prioritise real mountain journeys whilst developing the skills to safely explore the mountains in winter conditions.

This course covers: - using crampons and ice axes, personal movement skills, an in-depth knowledge in navigation including in poor visibility (use of map, compass and electronic devices), route planning (including hazard avoidance e.g. avalanche & cornices), decision making, emergency procedures, clothing and equipment, and environmental impact.
